ASTM D8003 is a relatively new method for the analysis crude oil. It uses a HPLIS valve for sample injection to account for the combination of high pressure and heavy hydrocarbon carbon fraction.

Forgive me for being a novice to this area, but to be clear, does one need to pay to obtain this method, whether it is through a institutional subscription or individual purchase?

One more thing: Reviewing my copy of the method PDF, the authors refer to a Heated Pressurized Liquid Injection System (HPLIS), and refer to an "HPLIS" valve in some places, and "PLIS" in others. Does Agilent sell this part?
No, Agilent does not supply that part. It is a third party supplier, so it would be a channel partner solution with Agilent hardware.
What about the Agilent High Pressure Injection Device (G3505A)? http://cn.agilent.com/cs/library/applications/5989-8037EN.pdf . It looks like it may meet the specifications of the ASTM method. Not quite the same as the Transcendent PLIS but similar.
We have the Agilent HPLI and it works very well with LPG samples. Have not tried it on condensates or Canadian light crudes though.
Typically the problem is the oil may need to be heated to get into liquid from, so for this reason I don't believe the High Pressure Injection Device would be acceptable. If the fraction is light it may work, but would need to be tested.
