Run 2 or more instruments with one PC running OpenLab CDS

Hi!

I found this instruction on how to add an instrument to OpenLab CDS, so I assume you can have several instruments connected to the same PC.

My question is:

Say you have two instruments connected to the same PC, can you use them in each of their separate project and do two runs in parallell?

Since we only have one instrument connected at the moment to the PC running the modern version of CDS I can't test it myself, and if I want to connect one of our other instruments they probably need a firmware upgrade first since they are connected to PC:s running the old version of Chemstation.

But if you can't do two runs in parallell then it's not worth the trouble.

Thanks in advance, have a nice day!

  • Hello,

Yes, you can add more than one instrument to a computer and run them at the same time. You will need to follow the instructions in the CDS requirements manual on your media. You will need to have the required licenses and not exceed the instrument points for the installation type and connected instruments. For instance, you could have one LCMS with a DAD detector connected to a workstation, 2 LCs with DAD detectors, or 4 GCs as each instrument types have different communication loads.

  • Thank you for your answer!

Unfortunately both these instruments have SQMS:s, so it seems it won't work anyway. I asked because my employer is hesitant to upgrade the license for the instrument running the old Chemstation. I highly prefer the modern CDS, everything is better and faster. It is mostly a cost issue, as it always is.

    But thanks anyway.
