Infinite run time

Question

Has anyone run into an issue with instruments switching to an infinite run time? 
 I am using OpenLab CDS 2.5 with ECM. 
 I have run into an issue when running on 1 of our instruments (1200 with VWD) where when there is no injection, the instrument ignores the pump run time in the method and switches to the sampler. 
 This has occurred when my sequence had a no-injection instrument blank line and during the shutdown run. In both instances, the acquisition method run time was set to be controlled by the pump with all other modules referring to it. 
 I tried troubleshooting this by running shutdown methods with the run time controlled by the pump or by the sampler. In every instance with this instrument, when the run time was controlled by the pump it would run for the specified duration and then switch to controlled by the sampler at the end of the runtime and use an infinite run time. 
 
 On a related note, I had always thought it was a best practice to have the method run time set on only one module and have all other modules defer to it. Is this the recommended practice, and if so, which module is the best option to use?

 I think you mean a forced cold start. See page 192 of the Agilent 1200 Infinity Series Variable Wavelength Detectors User Manual for the dip switch settings. 
 1. Make sure to record what the as found dip switch settings are, before a forced cold start. 
 2. Power down all the instrument modules. 
 3. Set forced cold start dip switch settings. 
 4. Power on all the modules and wait for the module start-ups to complete. 
 5. Power off all modules. 
 6. Restore pre forced cold start dip switch settings. 
 7. Power on all modules.

There was something with the pump module. Agilent tech support had me perform a 'cold start' I think the term was. I had to power down the system, flip some of the switches in the back and then power back up. After the system came back online, I reversed the process (flipped switches back) and the issue was resolved. 
 Unfortunately, I don't have my notes from this anymore so I can't tell you which switches to change and they may not be the same for your module. I would suggest you check the manual for your module and look for 'cold start' or 'cold boot' and try that.
