Hello,
I added tags to this post to increase visibility.
The symptom you are describing indicates that there is not currently a resolved, local instrument controller being recognized by OpenLab. In the OpenLab Control Panel, go to Administration>Instrument controllers and check the status of the instrument controller listed.
On a workstation the instrument controller should have a status of 'local'. If the status is instead 'not resolved' then this would indicate that the PC name has changed on this workstation PC. This would be confirmed if the PC Name column is no longer populating in the Instrument Controllers table.
A procedure for how to recover from a PC name change is outlined in the PC Bundle Setup Guide: https://www.agilent.com/cs/library/usermanuals/public/M8380-90001_PC-BundleSetup.pdf
If this was an unintentional PC name change, then the easiest solution would be to simply rename the PC back to the original name to match the name of the Instrument Controller. If the PC name was intentional, then follow the procedure starting on page 3 of the document I linked above.
Hello Ryiboyle,
Thank you for your answer, the problem is that there is no Instrument controller listed, how can I add one?
Hello,
To create a new instrument controller, you just need to run the registercs.bat file. This file can be found at the paths below (depends on what revision of OpenLab ChemStation you are running and whether you upgraded from an older version of OpenLab ChemStation):
For C.01.07 and older: C:\Chem32\CORE
For C.01.08 / C.01.09: C:\Program Files (x86)\Agilent Technologies\ChemStation\CORE
Once you run the registercs.bat file and refresh the instrument controllers view in the OpenLab Control Panel, there should then be a new instrument controller listed.
Thank You
Did running the registercs.bat file work for you?
I'm waiting for our IS department as I do not have admin rights to get this done. I will place a comment. Thank you
I was able to add the Instrument controllers, thank you for the tip. My problem is that I cannot configure the instrument I cannot get the IP address, Subnet, gateway etc settings to update in the instrument. Any suggestions for this?
This manual should contain all of the information that you need: https://www.agilent.com/cs/library/quickreference/public/Setting%20up%20the%20LAN%20Instrument%20Network.pdf
Depending on the what type of mainboard/LAN card you have installed in the 6850, the procedure for setting the IP address, subnet mask, etc... will be different. Page 11 of the linked manual outlines how to set the IP address on 6850 GCs with a serial number greater than or equal to US102430001. If you have an older 6850 then you will need to rely on Telnet to assign the network parameters (page 16).

Thank you, but just to confirm, you are talking about the SN of the LAN card or the SN of the instrument?
That serial number referenced in the manual is the 6850 GC's serial number.
