Can you test for PFAS using a 4500aFTIR? Can I purchase a program that will give me accurate results for PFAS? Can't seem to fink an answer to this question.

Can you test for PFAS using a 4500aFTIR?  If so, what software program do I need to purchase?  Can it be done at all?  Thanks

  • Hi Debbie, I believe we can test for PFAS using a 4500a FTIR using the provided software (Mircolab Suite – PC, Lite , OQ & Quant) depending on the matrix and form of the material to be tested. The 4300 handheld may be more suited if maximum flexibility suited to a wider range of material types. The 4500a FTIR being an ATR instrument can provide qualitative and/or quantitative answers suited to certain sample types. PFAS materials all contain one or more type of carbon to fluorine which is highly absorbing in the mid-IR. We have examined fluorinated plastics, coatings, textiles, fire retardants, elastomers (FFKM & FKM), water and a few other materials.
