Error "Access to the path D:\MassHunter\Library\NIST17.L\ROOT is denied" in MassHunter

Hi everyone,

I’ve manually created a retention index (RI) calibration file for identification in the Agilent MassHunter Qualitative 12.0 software since I encountered an error: "Access to the path D:\MassHunter\Library\NIST17.L\ROOT is denied" when trying to generate it using the "RT Calibration" software, as demonstrated in the official Agilent videos.

While using the Agilent Library Editor, I opened the NIST17 library and found that the retention index column is empty. As a result, when I perform identification, the software indicates that the difference between the calculated RI and the reference RI from the library is virtually zero. This might be because, without a specified retention index in my library, the software is effectively subtracting the calculated RI from 0, which complicates accurate identification.

Has anyone else encountered this issue? I would appreciate any suggestions on how to resolve it or how to populate the retention index column in the library.

Thank you in advance for your assistance!

  • Hello  ,

What version of Quant are you using? I am not seeing any issues with either Quant 10.2 or 12.1 creating an RTC file using NIST17. I can also see RI values in NIST17 using either the 10.2 or 12.1 version of the Library Editor.

From your error it sounds like there is some issue with file permissions on your system or with the library files themselves. I would suggest reinstalling the library or working with your IT to verify you have full access to all of the files in the NIST17.L folder.
