Flow splitter - how to split the flow before adding make-up solvent?

We have applications running with solvents which can supress the ionization but are mandatory for chromatography. The idea was to split the flow with a ratio of 1:10 and than add a make-up flow for positiv effect on ionization.

When we try to split the flow before adding the make-up flow with the use of t-segments and cappilary backpressure, we end up with no signal although flow was coming into the MS. The system of t-segments, different length of cappilaries and two flows (main and make-up) is kind of confusing and hard to understand/troubleshoot.

When we try to split after adding the make-up solvent, we end up with high flow rates and a insufficient removal of the "bad" solvent.

Does any of you have experience with Splitters and Make-up solvents and maybe a solution for our problem? We already tried ESI and APCI with and without make-up, but the results are not good. There is always a big lack of sensitivity.
