"Agilent OpenLab Shared Services" service is not running

my GPC/SEC instrument disconnected from the computer. The following message appears when i try to initiate the Agilent ControPanel program.

"Testing the connection to Local Server ...

"Agilent OpenLab Shared Services" service is not running"

Any recommendations on how to solve this issue? Thank you in advance.

  • The error message indicating that the "Agilent OpenLab Shared Services" service is not running suggests a problem with the software services that facilitate communication between your GPC/SEC instrument and the Agilent Control Panel program. Here's how you can address this issue:

Step 1: Check the Service Status

    1. Open Windows Services Manager: Press Win + R to open the Run dialog, type services.msc, and press Enter. This will launch the Services application.
    2. Find the Service: Scroll through the list of services to find "Agilent OpenLab Shared Services".
    3. Check the Service Status: If the service is not running (indicated as "Stopped"), you need to start it.

    Step 2: Start the Service

    - Start the Service: Right-click on "Agilent OpenLab Shared Services" and choose "Start". If the service is already running but the program isn't connecting, try restarting the service by first stopping it (right-click > "Stop") and then starting it again (right-click > "Start").

Step 3: Ensure Automatic Startup  :

    - Change Startup Type: To prevent this issue from recurring, right-click on the service, select "Properties", change the "Startup type" to "Automatic", and then apply the changes. This ensures that the service starts automatically with Windows.

    Step 4: Verify Network Connections

    • If your system relies on network connections for communication between the instrument and the computer, ensure that all connections are secure and functioning properly. Sometimes, network issues can disrupt the communication even if the services are running correctly.

Step 5: Restart Computer and Instrument

    • Restart both your computer and the GPC/SEC instrument. A restart can resolve temporary glitches that might be causing the communication breakdown.
