Types of HPLC Solvent filter

We're undertaking a project to replace our glass inlet filters with harder wearing materials, as the glass gets chipped by the analysts and we're looking of ways of reducing long term costs.

So far we have been looking at metal filters to replace the standard Agilent glass filters.

Someone has mentioned that there are clear plastic filters available for HPLC, but they didn't have any information of who may be able to supply them.

Does anyone happen to know of a supplier for these?

The main solvents used here are Acetonitrile and Methanol. Does anyone have any experience of them and if they would be suitable for use with these solvents?

  • The standard glass filter frits (5041-2168) have a pore size of 20 um, but they should be replaced on a regular basis. They should not be sonicated or cleaned with "magical mixtures" (e.g. some people boil them in aqua regia).

More expensive, but also more durable are Stainless Steel inlet filters. Here we have a pore size of 12-14 um. Part number would be 01018-60025. Those inlet filters can be cleaned or sonicated.

I'm not aware of any plastic inlet filters Agilent would offer as a general supply.

So if you had issues with the standard glass inlet filters already, I'd go for the metal ones. In the long term, they really pay off.
