How to update equipment names while minimising users' disruption?

Hello,

We need to update all the equipment names in our 12 iLab cores so we can achieve standardization in the naming convention across our institution. However, all the cores are alive and we would like to do these updates in the most efficient way, so our users are minimally affected.

Could you provide some strategies on timing, planing and windows so we can achieve the above?

thank you

Leire

  • Hello ,

Thank you for reaching out with your question.

Standardizing equipment names across your cores is a great initiative to improve consistency. I will review the available options and strategies for timing, planning, and implementation to ensure minimal disruption to your users. Once I have all the details, I’ll provide you with a comprehensive update.

Thank you for your patience, and I’ll be in touch shortly.

    Best regards,

  • Hello  ,

Thanks so much for your patience while we explored the best ways to support your equipment name standardization project.

After reviewing our current system, I wanted to let you know that iLab doesn't currently support bulk updating of equipment names. This means each equipment name will need to be updated individuallyly to achieve consistency across your 12 iLab cores.

I totally understand how beneficial a bulk update feature would be for your team. I encourage you to submit this as a feature request, and I'd be more than happy to submit it on your behalf. While I can’t guarantee when or if this feature will be implemented, your feedback is incredibly valuable and helps us prioritize future improvements.

On the bright side, updating equipment names shouldn't cause any disruptions for your users. The equipment calendars are accessed via URLs that use equipment IDs rather than names, ensuring that the ability to use or book equipment remains unaffected. This setup minimizes any potential impact on your facility operations.

If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please feel free to reach out. I’m here to help!

    Best regards,
    Guilherme
