5973A MSD -302 Timeout writing to DP register Error

Never seen that error string before. Error 302 is:

The source and quad are cold. At turn on and pump down, they will go to 100° C without loading any tune file as soon as the high vacuum is achieved. Since it shows foreline pressure at 92 - this is a diffusion pumped system?   When is the last time the diffusion pump has had the diffusion pump fluid changed?

The SmartCard. There's not a reset, but if you go to MS Configuration, Help, Check Networking and Update MS Firmware....you could try that.

However, a 5973A ...has that been upgraded away from GPIB communications?  That instrument was released in the late 1990s !

This is GPIB system. The quad is cold - because we prepare system for vent (if needed). This is diff pump system. All oils (diffusion and forward vacuum pumps) was changed three month ago. Our system  usually has foreline pressure around 80-84. We always try to tune after minimum 1 hour pumping down.   

Has anything changed? New or different computer (Windows XP !), cables, GC, sampler, configuration...anything?   

GPIB SC2+ control card 05990-65412 is obsolete.   Back then we didn't load firmware onto SmartCards in the field. There's memory on the board and as SIMMs. You could try to find the SIMMs, but they are ancient, too.  There was a GPIB to LAN upgrade G1088A, and that is obsolete as well.

Hello Paul. No nothing was change. We still have error but now with new description. It looks we need new GC-MS

There are folks looking for other parts to fix their old system too. I search online for the really old stuff for sale once in a while, especially the very early HP instruments.
