GC analysis of Oxygen trapped in plastic film

Hi, How I can identify the oxygen trapped in a plastic film. I performed the GC analysis on Agilent 8890 GC system. From Chromatograph and mass spectrum peaks how I can tell which peaks shows the percentage of oxygen present in the sample. I used Enhanced data analysis tool to identify the peaks and then integrating the chromatograph I finally generated library search report but I could not figure out the percentage of oxygen present. Any help to understand will be appreciated.

A google search of "oxygen trapped in plastic film" leads to thousands of possibilities. Are you looking for oxygen permeability? Oxygen bonded inside the film itself? Oxygen - as part of the molecular structure of the film? Sterilized? Polypropylene or some other film? Virgin vs. recycled materials?

Using a GCMS to find oxygen is often difficult as there is nearly always some oxygen in the system's background. If you scan from 25 to, oh, 250 amu and then in data analysis do an extracted ion profile of ion 28, or SIM on ion 28, that is oxygen - but... that might not be answering your question. The sample, sample handling, the sampling into the GC/MS, and the methodology could be complicated.

Thank you very much for your help.

We aim to determine the oxygen content in a film and would appreciate your guidance on how to analyse the chromatograph for ion 28. As I am at the beginner stage of learning this analysis, your expertise would be invaluable.

We have several software tools available, including F-Search, Enhanced Data Analysis, and other Agilent-provided software.

I would be grateful if you could guide me on how to proceed with the analysis using these tools.

That level of instruction is outside the scope of this forum. There are many ways to get information as a beginner.
