Use of three NICs for House network, GC, MS

Is this configuration supported or do the GC and MS need to be on the same network switch?

I am thinking the workstation PC will have the motherboard ethernet adapter, plus two PCIe network adapter cards in order to have a separate connection for the house internet, GC, and MS directly.

In this way we would no longer require the 8-port network switch.

The IT department has asked me to explore options for getting rid of these network switches. The only other option I can think of is directly connecting every instrument to the house network switches and unlinking the direct connection between the PCs and the Instruments.

Thank you for your time

  • For SQ and TQ instruments, the GC and the MS should be on the same switch and must be local to the computer. While the configuration you suggest might work - it's not tested nor supported. Data acquisition over the network is not tested nor supported either.   "Not Supported" means that if you experience any network related issues the first thing asked will be to get the entire system to a supported configuration.

Might work...try it, but keep a switch or three around for troubleshooting.
