Agilent 7200 QTOF Collision Cell N2 Flow - Not Running MS/MS

Hi, I'm running an Agilent 7200 QTOF with a 7890B GC. Since installation there has been a 1.5 ml/min N2 flow into the collision cell, even though we are not running in MS/MS.

Just wondering is this typical? As the instrument can run at a much higher vacuum with the flow off/waste less N2.

Thanks in advance!

  • There is about a 10 fold increase in sensitivity with the CC gas and the system running in any mode.  You can turn it off when you are not using it - but it takes about 20 to 30 minutes for the collision cell temperature to stabilize again after it is turned on or turned off.

If you want to run it with the CC gas flow off because you have more than enough sensitivity, make sure that you run a full autotune with it off and save it as something like Tune-CC-Gas-OFF .
