connecting two columns to a msd

good day!
I have a question.

Can I connect two-column to an ms detector? can i use a tee? will it be safe for the turbo pump because the flow will increase?

  • Hi azrael, as mhardacker has posted, a two hole ferrule works well; but they are more prone to leaks than a single hole ferrule, and can let in a lot of air on temperature cycling. Could I recommend the Agilent G3181B Two-Way Splitter Kit with a fused silica restrictor going to the source?  https://www.agilent.com/cs/library/usermanuals/public/G3181-90120_045611.pdf  -   You can use the "normal" and "drastically reduced" flow method mhardacker describes, and the restrictor help stop you exceeding the maximum flow for the MS. It gives you other advantages such as being able to change one of the columns without having to break the vacuum (turn the pressure up on the other column, and cool everything before removing the column).

If you have a spare EPC, the Agilent G3183B Three-Way Splitter Kit is better:-

https://www.agilent.com/cs/library/usermanuals/public/G3183-90120.pdf   -  It gives you other advantages such as "back-flush" and is a lot more flexible and easy to use.
