Front inlet shutdown in high efficient GC/MS

Dear colleagues

we encountered a new problem with front inlet shutdown in high efficient GCMS , the inlet itself appear OK before the beginning of run method and still OK during syringe wash and sample drawn but before injection the sample we find that the pressure decreases continuously and no injection is happen then the instrument gives front inlet shutdown.

i tried to restart the GC ,changing the method and unchecked the readiness of the front inlet but frailer to solve this problem.

does any one can declare this problem and how to solve it.

                                         many thanks

  • Hi,

sound like a problem with the split vent valve. During injection (splitless mode) this should be closed. If it's not possible to close completely the pressure decreases. Try an injection in split mode, should be working fine. To be sure there is a little leak do the pressure decay test on your inlet.

You can find a description in the troubleshooting manual of the GC, section 'To Perform a SS Pressure Decay Leak Test'.

If you're not able to fix it, please call the Agilent service to replace the parts needed.
