GC suddenly displaying message "Front inl trap test F too low", between samples in a sequence. It analyzed several samples fine and then suddenly stopped with this message. What can I do about this?

Hi LWarren I moved your question to the Gas Chromatography Forum for better visibility.
Can you share more information about your system setup - what is your GC model and inlet type? Was any maintenance recently performed?
Thanks,
Kristen
Hi Kristen, we haven't performed any maintenance recently. I have an Agilent 7890A GC with SSL inlet, attached to a 5975C inert MSD/DS.
Hello LWarren ,
It would be a good idea to change the inlet consumables (septa, liner, o-ring and gold seal), those would be the regular maintenance items for the SSL inlet. You can also do some leak testing on the inlet by following the instructions in the link below:
Manual Steps for Inlet Leak Check, Pressure Decay Test, and Split Vent Restriction Test for 6890/7890 - Wiki - Gas Chromatography - Agilent Community
Here is a non-exhaustive list of things that would help identify the problem:
- What is the gas supply pressure? Also, is it a tank, or a generator? If a tank, was it recently changed?
- What are the dimensions of the column you are using on the GC? Are those dimensions configured correctly (front panel of the GC and/or Software)?
- What is the carrier gas type, and is it correctly configured on the GC?
- What are the inlet parameters (mode -split or splitless-, flows, pressures).
