Tapered syringe needle increases abundance?

Why do my sample abundances increase X3 using a tapered 23/26 gauge syringe  vs a straight 23gauge syringe? I did watch to be sure it was delivering 1uL of sample. My values increased from just over 300 to over 1000 with the change in syringe.

According to this table, the internal diameter of the 2 gauges are the same.   Even if the internal diameter of the smaller bore were smaller, how would this increase the amount of sample introduced onto the column?

Running on a 7890GC.

  • No other changes.  The same ASVs were run multiple times using two different versions of the same method.  The abundance increase was reproduced for each.

Also, we do have a Merlin microseal on the instrument and I'm told that the 26 gauge portion of the needle should be too small to create a good seal, so my results should be the opposite.
