7800 ICP-MS MassHunter Question

Hey Everyone,

I was doing some organizing and I was saving my performance reports one by one to a folder on my computer, and I needed to go do something else and I did not want to lose my place, so I highlighted the performance reports I had backed up on my computer to delete them, but when I pressed the Clear Performance report history, It cleared every single one. I guess I should have been more cautious about that. Is there anyway to get those reports back?

  • There is no way to select which reports to clear, it will only do the entire report history.  When you hit the Clear Performance report it does not delete them.  You can go back and access them.  To do this you will need to close MassHunter, go to D:\Agilent\ICPMH\1\Performance Report folder.  You will see PerformanceReport.xml, and then one that is a date/time stamp from when you cleared the table.  The date/time stamp is all the old reports.  To see them, rename the PerformanceReport.xml to PerformanceReport-temp.xml.  Rename the one with the stamp to PerformanceReport.xml.  When you open MassHunter again, they will be visible.  Each time you clear the history, it will create a new file with the date/time.  These will only have the reports from the last time it was updated.  If you have multiple, figure out what date you want to check, make sure that date is before the filename date and rename files as above.  Once you have viewed what you want to see, go back and rename the files again.  The one now named PerformanceReport.xml to the date-time and remove -temp from the new one created when you cleared the history.

It is a very good idea to clear the history regularly, no more than quarterly.  When it is not cleared the file gets very large, and it really slows down the software.  I recommend doing it when you know the instrument is running well.  After it runs the performance report and it looks good, clear the history and run it again.  This will give you a good start point to compare going forward until you clear history again.

Same with clearing the Queue.  This does not save them, but there is no data in that table. I would not go more than 1 week without clearing the Queue.
