8900 - What tuning criteria do you use for NH3, O2, H2, and He tune modes? Should we test for sensitivity, %RSD, doubly charged, oxides, for each mode?

8900 - What tuning criteria do you use for NH3, O2, H2, and He tune modes? Should we test for sensitivity, %RSD, doubly charged, oxides, for each mode? Does Agilent have any guidances? I work in a GMP environment that is highly regulated so I need to be able to defend this to auditors. Is this something I have to come up with myself or are there an industry standards? BTW, I am an experienced ICP-MS chemist but we have a 8900 we are trying to get up and running to run more complex matrices.

  • Hi,

During the installation of the instrument NoGas, He, H2 and O2 mode are checked if they met there specifications. These specifications for the installed model 8900 is on the installation checklist. This is a good starting point to check the performance of the instrument. In the OQ also minimum levels for the criteria could be found.

In the by the customer used method/batch could an other sample intro could be used, or another plasma mode or reaction gas flow. All these user settings have impact on the criteria level. It's up to the user to validate these settings, approve if the performance characteristics is in the good level and start form there to used the found levels as limits on sensitivity, RSD% and double charged.

Please reach out to our local application specialist to get more information if you want to get trained about the way to set up method for difficult samples and the way interpret the performance characteristic.

    Cheers,

    Edgar
