The gas regulator on our Argon cylinder for our ICP-OES system regularly produces a high pitched noise due to resonance from the flow of the gas.  Is there a certain type of regulator or setup that eliminates this noise?

We can sometimes reduce the noise by adjusting the main cylinder valve and the exiting needle valve, but it would be great to eliminate the noise.   Should there be a needle valve after the regulator?

  • Sometimes the membrane or spring of the regulator is a bit aged. Due to this the regulator could produce some noise. The regulator could be checked by the supplier of the regulator or the regulator could be changed by an other type if the noise is too annoying or the regulator produce an unstable pressure. Another setup doesn’t eliminate the noise.

please ask the regulator supplier for the correct regulator of a change is needed.

    good luck

  • Thanks edgarvs.  I had replaced the regulator a while back and it seemed better for awhile but then it got worse again.  I recently put a different regulator on and it seems fine for now.  It could be our regulators are just getting very old and we might need to purchase a new one.
