ICP-OES 5800 - Standby Mode with argon off

Hello everyone,

we recently purchased an ICP-OES 5800.

The service technician said that we should always leave the unit on and flush it with argon (0.7L/min). Otherwise the optics would be damaged and the instrument would need several hours until it is ready to measure again.

Now we have seen in the User Manual that there is an option to put the instrument in standby mode and turn off the argon. We would prefer this to reduce argon consumption.

My question now is whether we can put the instrument into standby mode with the argon switched off if we do not plan to measure for a period of time.

We plan to collect the samples to be measured and thus conduct measurements not more than 1 day per week or several days in a row for the whole month. Therefore, it would not be a problem if the instrument had to be flushed again with 0.7L/min for a few hours or 1-2 days beforehand.

It would be great if you can give me some opinions or the practice in your labs regarding this topic.

Thank you very much.
