In icp ms nickel cones are generally used. The temperature of the plasma is between 6000- 8000k. The temperature produced by the plasma is very very higher than the melting point of Ni, then how its working ?

Hi,
you’re right, the Plasma is much hotter then the melting point of any element. So the Interface on which the cone sits is water cooled. This prevents the cones from melting.
Side fact: Most cones are made from copper with a nickel (or platinum) insert.

Hi Chris
Thanks, is the circulating water can bring down such a high temperature? Is the water evaporation is controlled by the fast circulation?
