How to Reset the Pump Oil EMF Counter of the Agilent GC/MSD

Created by Xu Li-hua Xu Li-hua over 1 year ago | Last modified by Carlos Vargas Carlos Vargas 8 days ago

This Information Applies To: Agilent GC/MS MassHunter Acquisition Software Agilent 5975/5977 GC/MSD

Issue

Use the Early Maintenance Feedback (EMF) tool to track the GC/MSD's consumable resource and part use, and to configure alerts for when they need to be replaced or serviced. After certain maintenance activities, for example, replacing the foreline pump oil, it is necessary to reset the EMF counters.

There are two methods to set or reset the EMF counters.

Steps to follow

Method 1

Using the Macro function, see the following steps:

  1.  In the GC/MS Acquisition software command line, type: macro “emfcheck.mac”, go and press [Enter] in the keyboard (see Figure 1).

Figure 1. Agilent GC/MS Acquisition software command line

  2. The Select EMF action dialog box is displayed (see Figure 2). Select one of the displayed option buttons according to the desired task: Set Limits, Set Counters or Reset Counters, and click OK. Select any of the checkboxes to execute the previously selected action, and click OK.
In this example, to reset the Pump oil (Days) to zero, select Reset Counters > Pump oil (days) 0 of 90 (see Figure 3).

  3. To disable an EMF function, set the EMF parameter limit value to -1. In the following example, to disable the EMF Pump Oil (Days) function, select Set Limits from the Select EMF action dialog box (Figure 2). Click OK, then type -1 in the Pump Oil (days) 0 of 90 box (see Figure 4).

Method 2

If the instrument is an Agilent 5977B GC/MSD with LVDS communication enabled, there is another option to set the EMF, see the following steps:

  1. In the MassHunter Acquisition software, from the Instrument menu, select Maintenance (see Figure 5)

  2. The Early Maintenance dialogue box is displayed, select Early Maintenance Feedback Counters > Mass Spec > Pump maintenance (see Figure 6).

  3. To expand the pump maintenance information, click the Plus sign (+) on the right side.

  4. Click Reset EMF to reset the pump oil days count to zero in this example. The Warning Threshold and Service due Threshold can also be enabled and configured in this dialog box (They are disabled as default) (see Figure 7).
