Agilent 2100 Bioanalyzer System Run-time Error 50003 upon 2100 Expert Software Launch

Created by Agilent Knowledge Portal Agilent Knowledge Portal over 1 year ago | Last modified by Geoff Pettitt Geoff Pettitt 8 months ago

This Information Applies To: 2100 Bioanalyzer systems, 2100 Expert software

Issue: When trying to launch the Agilent 2100 Expert software, the process aborts and the user sees run-time error message:

Run-time error '50003' often indicates that an older version of Microsoft Common Controls might be installed on the PC in question. Possible root causes include:

  • Computer display (scale and layout) not set to 100%

  • Remnant of an old Visual Basic program

  • Files not registered properly during 2100 Expert software installation

  • Necessary .OCX files cannot be overwritten as another program uses an older instance

Steps to follow:

  1. Check that the scaling of computer display is set to 100 %. Select computer Start menu > Settings > Display > Scale and layout > select 100% (Recommended) from the drop down menu.

  2. Open the 2100 Expert software from the desktop shortcut. If the shortcut does not launch the software, open the software from the installation directory. Select C:>Program Files (x86)>Agilent>2100 Bioanalyzer>2100 expert >bin, hold the SHIFT key and right-click the ExpertLauncher.exe. There will be two options that can be tested:

    1. Run as administrator.

    2. Run as different user (with full administration rights).

  3. If issue persists, reinstall the software from local administration account with full administration rights. Alternatively, if you are not running the most recent version of the software then update to the latest version of the software under local admin account. Before the software upgrade, please see software Readme file to ensure that PC specifications are met for the most recent version of the software. Then review the software installation steps from the read me file. Briefly, for software reinstall or upgrade, see following steps:

    1. Back up data

       Warning
Caution: Failure to back up data will cause irretrievable loss of data.
    2. Uninstall the software.

    3. Reboot the computer.

    4. Reinstall the software anew

  4. If there are still issues, create a new local administrator user profile and repeat step 3.

Contact your Agilent local support team for further assistance as needed.
