This information applies to: Agilent 2100 Bioanalyzer system
Issue
The Bioanalyzer short circuit diagnostic test has failed.
Requirements
Run the short circuit test with an empty unused DNA, RNA, or protein assay chip. The short circuit test checks for leak currents within the instrument and electrode cartridge.
See the article How to Run the Hardware Diagnostics on the Agilent Bioanalyzer, for guidance on how to run the diagnostic tests. When reviewing the diagnostic test results, to view the short circuit test result in more detail, click Short Circuit Test within the table. Then select the Results tab at the bottom of the software.
The maximum allowed leakage mean value for each channel is 0.025 μA. An example of a failed short test result is shown in Figure 1.

If the Short Circuit Test Still Fails After Extensive Cleaning and Drying
Running the diagnostics with a second electrode cartridge can help narrow down the problem to either the instrument, or pin set and electrode cartridge.
If the short circuit test continues to fail send the hardware diagnostic results and any data files that you believe may have been affected to your Agilent support representative. The diagnostic results have a .xdy extension and are by default saved in the following location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Agilent\2100 bioanalyzer\2100 expert\diagnosis. The Bioanalyzer data files have an .xad extension and are by default saved in the following location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Agilent\2100 bioanalyzer\2100 expert\data.
Operating the Bioanalyzer in a High Humidity Environment
When operating the Bioanalyzer in a high humidity environment, the following suggestions may improve performance:
First consider if it is is possible to move the Bioanalyzer to a temperature and humidity-controlled room. If this option is not possible, dehumidify the room where the Bioanalyzer is operated in regularly. The duration and frequency of this dehumidification depend on the ambient conditions of the laboratory and cannot be predefined. Possible suggestions for how to do this are:
