Overall Equipment Effectiveness* (OEE) is a well-known measurement in production environments for capturing overall lab equipment effectiveness and performance. Through Agilent CrossLab’s Laboratory Business Intelligence, Laboratory Equipment Utilization Reporting, and Advisory Services, we bring elements of OEE metrics to scientific instrumentation and the laboratory testing cycle. These services determine OEE by looking at the following relative instrument effectiveness metrics and reporting unplanned downtime, service histories and instrument utilization over set time intervals:

  • Availability and uptime: The percentage of time that the instrument is available to operate
  • Loading: The percentage of time the instrument is scheduled to operate
  • Performance: The portion of time the instrument actually operates
  • Quality: The percentage of total samples run versus the number of samples reanalyzed

OEE metrics provide laboratory managers with a way to monitor instrument downtime and related service issues and provides insights into your laboratory equipment inventory.*OEE was developed by the Japan Institute for Plant Maintenance (JIPM)
